INTRODUCTION

A Community College named IGNOU-HIFEED Community College (Code No. CHI 2403) is established at HIFEED Campus which is registered with Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU). Community College is an alternative system of education which aims to empower individuals through appropriate skill development leading to gainful employment in collaboration with the local industry and the community. It helps in developing skills for employment and self employability particularly to the marginalized and underprivileged sections of society. Community colleges offer the advantage of tailoring programs to local needs and state-based requirements by using approaches that will be most acceptable to workers in the given community.

 Community College generally has a two year curriculum that either leads to an associate degree for transfer to an undergraduate college or lead to the students’ direct entry into any occupation or trade. These colleges are a source of economic growth because they provide an educated and skilled workforce that improves the quality of life for individual students, communities, and the Nation.

 Community College is a gate way to vocational and professional education, in a small, community based environment and often low cost, conveniently located at mountainous eco-fragile zone in Uttarakhand Himalaya at HIFEED campus Ranichauri, Tehri Garhwal. Acts to emphasize the qualitative professional education with an apprehension relating to the new identity and multi functional role to the people empowerment and unitization in changed context to maximize gain in livelihood and professional opportunities to communities reside in diversified

OBJECTIVES OF THE PROJECT

The objective of Community Colleges is to provide skill based livelihood enhancing education and eligibility for employment to the disadvantaged and under-privileged like the urban poor, rural poor, and women. Providing appropriate skills development in collaboration with local industries thus leading to gainful employment is the major target of Community College. The College is self financed and supported by HIFEED by its own resources and collection of fee from the students. The College was registered with Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) during the year 2009.

INNOVATION IN THE FIELD OF PROFESSIONAL AND VOCATIONAL EDUCATION

 TEACHING

The Community College offers courses to impart knowledge and skills through suitable curriculum with the choice of students and availability of jobs in the market. Theory and practical trainings are very well integrated all the courses to provide carrier orientation and hands on experience.

Easy Transfer to Community college

A high school and intermediate qualification refers to an efficient system of articulation for Certificate Programme (6 Months), Diploma Programme (1 Year) and Associate Degree Programme (2 Years)

TRAINING

Community College  conduct a wide range of training programmes  to supply suitable manpower to the societies and therefore provide training facilities wherever possible today’s community college has emerged as strong center of training  and activities.

Pedagogy

The Community College uses a very broad mix of teaching/learning techniques, which includes- lecture by instructor, case studies, individual research projects, group projects, classroom discussions, video shown in class, classroom presentation by students, computerizing learning assessment, reading textbooks, etc.

Evaluation System

The Community College follows relatively grading as well as marking system. The evaluation system is designed to continually assess the student’s performance in relation to the required academic standards.
