HEART CHECK-UP AND DIAGNOSIS PROGRAMS

HEART CHECK-UP AND DIAGNOSIS PROGRAMS UNDER OUTREACH PROGRAM OF ESCORTS HEART INSTITUTE

INTRODUCTION AND BACKGROUND OF THE PROJECT

Heart disease poses a significant health challenge in India, with recent years witnessing a surge in cardiovascular-related mortality. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), India accounts for nearly a quarter of global deaths attributed to heart disease. This alarming trend underscores the pressing need for robust preventive measures and early diagnosis protocols. In response, HIFEED has partnered with Escorts Heart Institute & Research Centre, New Delhi, to launch two Free Heart Check-up and Diagnosis Programs as part of its outreach initiatives in the Tehri Garhwal and Dehradun districts of Uttarakhand. These programs aim to provide complimentary heart examinations and diagnostic services to individuals in the region facing challenges in accessing quality healthcare facilities. Offering comprehensive cardiac diagnostic services including ECG, echocardiography, and other relevant tests, alongside counselling services, the programs seek to empower individuals to understand their cardiac health status and make necessary lifestyle adjustments. Through this collaborative outreach, HIFEED and Escorts Heart Institute strive to democratize access to superior cardiac care in remote areas and promote preventive measures against heart disease.

These initiatives aim to provide medical assistance to economically challenged individuals in the region who may otherwise lack access. The first camp, held at the government base hospital in New Tehri, Tehri Garhwal district of Uttarakhand on October 5th-6th, 2004, catered to the cardiac health needs of residents in and around New Tehri Town. Inaugurated by the District Magistrate of Tehri Garhwal, over 500 individuals received diagnosis and treatment from specialists at Escorts Heart Institute during this camp.

The second camp, held at Nagar Nigam, Dehradun, on October 26th-27th, 2008 and inaugurated by the Hon’ble Health Minister of Uttarakhand, aimed to benefit individuals from Dehradun and surrounding areas. More than 600 individuals received diagnosis and treatment during this camp. Expert physicians from Escorts Heart Institute, assisted by a team of nurses and support staff, utilized state-of-the-art equipment to conduct thorough check-ups and diagnoses, including electrocardiograms, echocardiograms, and stress tests. These camps garnered significant community appreciation, not only for extending free medical aid but also for raising awareness about heart health and ensuring access to healthcare services for underprivileged individuals.
